Coming off of a 25-17 victory over Southwestern Assemblies of God University on Saturday, three members of the Austin College football team have been earned weekly honors from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Sean Sweeney was named the Offensive Player of the Week, Nathan Packard earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, and Andrew Klink was named the Special Teams Player of the Week.
Sweeney, a senior running back from Plano, carried 30 times for 208 yards and a touchdown with a long run of 58 yards to help the ‘Roos topple the Lions in Waxahachie. Sweeney is the first SCAC player to rush for more than 200 yards since October of 2011.
Packard, a junior linebacker from Dallas, had seven tackles including five solo stops and recovered a fumble late in the fourth quarter that led to the game winning touchdown three plays later. Packard leads the ‘Roos with 24 tackles on the year.
Klink, a junior from Cypress, made four field goals with a long of 42 yards as the ‘Roos picked up their first win of the season. Klink also added a touchback and averaged better than 54 yards per kickoff.
